In a press conference at our Bayview headquarters last Wednesday, Mayor Ed Lee announced his proposed commitment of $19.2 million to home-delivered meal programs over the next two years; an increase that sets a bold standard for the way our city will face the challenges of a rapidly aging population. By 2037, there will be 100,000 more seniors in the city than there are today.
In response to possible cuts in federal funding, the Mayor expressed his unequivocal support for Meals on Wheels, urging mayors across the country to join him in protecting these vital services that allow seniors to age with dignity and independence.
We are thrilled to include the support of Mayor Lee, along with many generous donors, as we launch our 50th Anniversary Capital Campaign for a new kitchen – one that will provide for home-bound seniors across San Francisco for generations to come.
