The Thanksgiving holiday is just around the corner and all of us at Meals on Wheels San Francisco want to wish you and yours a joyous holiday!
We also want to thank everyone who has volunteered in the past on Thanksgiving Day to deliver meals and smiles to thousands of older San Franciscans at a time when many may feel isolated or alone.
While the COVID-19 pandemic seems to be dissipating, we have decided to postpone the Thanksgiving Day volunteer meal delivery event out of an abundance of caution and for the safety of the seniors we serve. We hope to host this fun, heartwarming, and important part of our mission with you in 2023!
That said – our kitchen team is cooking up quite a feast – preparing a special Thanksgiving Dinner for 6,000 meal recipients. These dinners will be presented in a festive box along with a special Thanksgiving card to brighten their day.
The dinner menu includes:
lbs turkey
lbs Brussels sprouts
lbs mashed potatoes
gal cranberry sauce
lbs stuffing
pumpkin & pecan pies
While you may not be able to deliver a meal to a senior this year — you can still help by making a gift to Meals on Wheels San Francisco.
As you may already know, the price of food is skyrocketing. Our Thanksgiving meal costs 20% more than last year and our overall food budgets continue to go up each month.
That equates to $20,000 more than what we planned in our budget!
In October alone, our costs were $100K more than we anticipated in our budget. It’s no secret — inflation has hit our food and fuel costs hard!
We do what we do because we know the older neighbors we serve daily look forward to receiving this special dinner each year. And even more so, we believe no one should go hungry or be forgotten, especially during the holidays.
We are thankful for many things, including your support that allows us to provide meals every day to those in need.
Please make a generous gift today to help counter rising food and fuel costs for our Meals and our Wheels.
